Francis Joseph "Frank" Steif, a 45 year resident of Redondo Beach, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010. Frank was born in South Bend, Indiana, on October 14, 1930, to the late Lawrence and late Verada nee Kissell Steif. Frank served in the Army during the Korean War and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1953. He married Shirley M. Kuminecz on April 26, 1958. Frank was employed by the Magnavox Research Labs of Torrance, California for 35 years. Well loved and respected, he built friendships that lasted throughout his life. Frank was an avid golfer and loved to watch Notre Dame football, his "beloved Irish". A long time member of St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Redondo Beach, he never missed Saturday mass and enjoyed socializing with fellow parishioners. Above all, Frank was a devoted family man, treasuring time spent with each member of his family. Frank is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley; Daughter, Karen (Shawn) Crawford, of Aurora, Illinois; Son, Kevin Steif of Redondo Beach, California; Daughter, Kathi (John) Ilgen of Oceanside, California; Daughter, Karol (Danny) Findley, of Scotts Valley, California; Grandchildren, Courtney, Christopher, Cassandra, Brittany, Caroline and Reese; Sister, Anna (Charles) Slomski, of South Bend, Indiana, Brother-in-law Ralph DeMeyer of Osceola, Indiana and two nephews and four nieces. Frank was preceded in death by his brother, L.B. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
