Mrs. Frances Kavanugh Velazquez, a long time resident of Hawthorne, Ca. passed away on November 8th 2009 at Little Company of Mary hospital after a long and courageous battle with several illnesses.
Frances was born March 28th 1929 in Los Angeles Ca. She was the daughter of Frank S. Hughes, USN (RET) and Lillian E. Murphy. She was raised in Los Angeles and graduated from John Muir High School.
Mrs. Velazquez pursued a career in the nursing field before leaving nursing to provide full time care for her disabled youngest son, Richard.
In retirement Frances continued to care for Richard and enjoyed being with her family. Her passion was caring for animals especially her beloved cats. She was a warm and generous soul to all she cared for.
Mrs. Velazquez is survived by her husband of 50 years Jose Manuel Velazquez: sons Gerd N. Hoffmann, Kurt E. Hoffmann and Richard M. Velazquez of Los Angeles and daughter Karen Hoffmann Waters of Colorado Springs Co; sister Nancy A. Lobuglio of Galt Ca. Aunt Gertrude Chillero of Redding Ca; Grandchildren Matthew S. Stark of Riverside co. Ca, Nicole J. Matasso of Houston Tx, Hartley-Brooke Hoffmann of Hemet Ca, Kyle Hoffmann of Hemet Ca. Jeremy D. Hall of Pa. Ann Marie S. Stark of Colorado Springs Co. and John D. Waters of Colorado Springs Co. Michelle Velazquez of Los Angeles, Ca. Christen Velazquez of Los Angeles, Ca. Vanessa Velazquez and Carla Velazquez of Arizona, Nieces Debbie and Susanne Lobuglio of Sacramento, Ca. and Son in Law Joseph Chandler Calkins Jr of Colorado Springs, Co. Daughter in Law Lynn Hoffmann of Long Beach Ca..Frances was also very proud of her 13 great grand children.
Frances is preceded in passing by her son Michael A. Velazquez, her father, Frank S. Hughes, Mother, Lillian E. Edwards, and Brother John E. Edwards and ex-husband Norbert W. Hoffmann.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 17th 2009 from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM at Rice Mortuary in Torrance, CA. Memorial Services will begin at 10: AM with a reception to follow at the mortuary. A viewing will be held Monday November 16th from 5pm-9pm. Graveside service will at 12:30 pm at Inglewood Memorial Cemetery, Inglewood, Ca.
