Florence Schmidl Labastida

Florence Labastida Florence Labastida passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at the age of 99, at her home. Born April 24, 1913 in Hamburg, Germany, she emigrated at the age of 10, with her family, to New York City where she lived until moving to California in 1957. She was a resident of the South Bay area for 53 years. Working as a waitress and sometimes bartender, and in later years as a legal transcriber, Florence lived life with zest, enjoying dancing, travel, being with friends, and 3:00 o'clock coffee and cake. Her fun-loving nature and quick wit will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Manuel, her parents Blasius and Anna Schmidl, her brother Ewald and sister Ursula, she is survived by her only child, daughter Elizabeth Ann Emanuel. A private gathering to celebrate her life and share memories will be held at her home at a later date.
