Flora
Naomi Hord, a 20 year resident of the Beach Cities, died peacefully in her home on October 6, 2005. Born Flora Naomi Shockley on Christmas Day, 1921, in Joplin, Missouri, she attended Jefferson City High School and graduated with a degree in mathematics from Central Methodist College. On April 24, 1943, she married J.W. Hord, and for the next 40 years she raised a family and worked in insurance and as an officer in the juvenile justice system for the state of Missouri. In 1985, Naomi and J.W. retired to Redondo Beach, involved themselves in local service organizations, and enjoyed living closer to their grandchildren. Naomi was predeceased by J.W. in 2003, and by her son John in 2004. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia and John Felz of Manhattan Beach and Mary and John Wetzel of Danville, CA. She leaves six grandchildren: Andrew and Molly Felz, Benjamin and Nathaniel Hord and Jack and Jeffrey Wetzel. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library
