Fil Dans Kagahastian was born on November 29, 1923 in Paete, Laguna, Philippines. He was the 7th of nine children of the late Atanacio Kagahastian and Cristeta Dans.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nena Rodriguez Kagahastian, 6 children , Susan and Dr. Manuel Fernandez, Lilian and Michael de Castro, Merlyn and Josefino Sales, Helen and Dr. Ananias Ebilane, Jocelyn Kagahastian and Jessie Servas and only son Edwin Kagahastian and wife Melenie Javier; 22 grandchildren: Celestine, John and Tina Fernandez; Christian, Don Michael, Noel and Cheska de Castro; Marion, Marco, Mitzi and husband Dino Isla and Martin Sales; Kenneth, Kevin and wife Jennifer Jocson, Keith and Kerwin Ebilane; JM Zulueta and Kaye, Tanya and husband Ryan Lagmay, Natassha and Alex Cruz; Paul, Jahn Erik and Veronica and Erica Kagahastian; 9 great grandchildren: Justine Sales, Kaille and Danielle Isla, Cienna and Dominic Ebilane, Christopher Zulueta, Rynante and Tristan Lagmay and Erik Kagahastian.
He is also survived by his sister, Melly K. Alejo . He was predeceased by 7 siblings: Juanita, Fermina, Lucena, Leopoldo, Teodorico, Leon and Urbano.
He graduated valedictorian in high school and took up nursing at the University of the Philippines PGH-School of Nursing and obtained a degree in Commerce at Far Eastern University which launched his banking career for over at Philippine National Bank working his way up from bank clerk to manager for 34 years until he retired in 1984. After immigrating to the US, he worked for a few years at the accounting department of John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Hawthorne. He was a resident of Torrance.
He was a tennis and chess enthusiast.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, between 4-9 pm at Rice Mortuary , 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, Ca. 90503. Memorial services will be held at 8:45 am at St. Philomena Catholic Church, 21900 S. Main Street, Carson, Ca. 90745.
