Brown,Evelyn, a former 70 year resident of Redondo Beach, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2004, in Thousand Oaks. Born in Missouri, Evelyn was 97 when she died. A graduate of UCLA, she taught in the Los Angeles City School System for 37 years. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Redondo Beach, member of the HZ Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood in Redondo Beach, the Salvation Army Auxiliary and a past member of the Community Concerts Association, the Evening Division of the Redondo Beach Woman's Club and the Retired Teachers Association. Among many awards, she received the ''Woman of the Year'' award from the YWCA and the ''Others'' award from the Salvation Army. Preceded in death by her husband, W. Earl Brown (former superintendent of the South Bay Union High School District), she is survived by 3 daughters, Marjorie Bowen of Ames, IA, Beverly Soza of Walnut Creek, CA, and Kay Woodruff of Westlake Village, CA. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 29, 2004, at the White & Day Colonial Mortuary in Redondo Beach. Inurnment will be in Pacific Crest Cemetery, Redondo Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Redondo Beach Corps of the Salvation Army Auxiliary or the Memorial Fund at the First United Methodist Church of Redondo Beach.
Is this the Evelyn Brown that taught at 259th Place Elementary [now Eshelman] in the 50\’s and 60\’s? If so, I would like to share a memory with the family.
