Velasco, Evangeline "Eva" a 58 year resident of Lawndale, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2007 in Torrance. Born in Tucson, AZ, to Charles and Teresa Velasco, Eva was 77 when she died. She attended St.Catherine Laboure and participated and traveled with a local Senior Citizen group. Eva enjoyed traveling to Laughlin, Las Vegas and Reno where her favorite past-time was visiting the various casinos. Prior to her retirement in the early 1990's, Eva was employed at Montgomery Ward and took great pleasure in working with the public, first in the cafeteria and then in perfume sales. Eva's many hobbies included music (she was a big fan of Dinah Washington), reading romance novels, watching Turner Classic television and completing crossword puzzles By far, Eva's most treasured times were those that she spent with her friends and family. She was a devoted and much beloved Mother, Nana and Friend to many. She is survived by Daughter, Ceceilia Kearney of Lawndale, CA, Son, Tom Velasco of Reno, NV, Son, Pat Kearney of Lawndale, CA, Daughter, Renee Velasco of Reno, NV, and Daughter, Jean Miles of Phoenix, AZ; Grandsons, Shawn Kearney of Hawthorne, CA, Tommy Velasco, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Jason Kearney of Lawndale, CA, Taylor Velasco of Phoenix, AZ, Freddie Gomez of Lawndale, CA, and Robbie Young of Ozark, AL.; Granddaughters, Tabitha Gomez of Lawndale, CA, Tannis Velasco of Reno, NV and Susanna Kearney of Hawthorne, CA; Great Grandsons, Justin Lyons of Lawndale, CA, Jesse Gomez of Lawndale, CA; Great Granddaughters, Kaelyn Kearney of Hawthorne, CA, Sarah Gomez of Lawndale, CA, Alyssa Kearney of Hawthorne, CA and Baby Kearney of Hawthorne, CA. Preceded in death by Father, Charles Velasco and Mother, Teresa Velasco. A memorial service will be held at McCormick Hawthorne Chapel on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. A celebration of Evangeline's life will follow at the Lawndale Civic Center.
