Eva
Eva Agnes Young, a 54-year resident of Palos Verdes Estates entered eternal life June 24th at the age of 84. Born in the farming town of Webster, South Dakota, Eva Piechowski came to Los Angeles in 1940. She moved to Palos Verdes Estates in 1953 with her late husband LeRoy Albert Young, a well-known South Bay architect. They were married nearly 65 years and spent almost every waking hour together, running their Redondo Beach architectural firm L.A. Young and Associates and raising their 6 children. Eva was known for her deep faith and commitment to the Church. In the early 50s, she and Roy helped found St. Lawrence, watching it grow from a small Catholic church to one of the largest in the South Bay. She was commissioned as a Third Order Franciscan, a rare honor bestowed by the Pope. She was also honored with the 'Benemerenti' papal award for her ministry in the church. In 1987, she and Roy received communion from Pope John Paul II after their architectural firm designed the worship space for his visit to Los Angeles at the Dodger Stadium. Eva's generosity was unparalleled. She always had an open door. She made it a point to help those less fortunate than her and often took people into her own home. A sign hangs over her fireplace that reads, "There are no strangers here, just friends we haven't met." She also had a wonderful sense of humor, strong values and a deep love of family. Eva was an entirely devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will live on through their memories and the lives of those she touched. Eva is survived by her brother, John Piechowski and 6 children, Dan, David, Craig, John, Joe and Eve; 17grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Services will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church 1900 S Prospect Ave, RB: Vigil Service Wed June 27 6pm / Funeral Mass Thursday June 28 6pm. Visitation at 3:30-5:30pm Wed & Thursday at McCormick Mortuary, RB. A private internment follows Friday at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made payable to the L.A.
