Esther Katheryn Mason Brown (Ochs), a long time resident of Glendora, CA passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Pomona Valley Hospital, Pomona, CA following a short illness; she entered into her Heavenly home. Esther was born in Wolf Point, Montana on March 21, 1925 and has resided Glendora since 1960.
Her mother's family emigrated from Germany to Turtle Lake North Dakota in the early 1900's where the Presser family homesteaded the area around Turtle Lake. A Lutheran church and a family cemetery were also established there by the family. Many, many cousins and their family members still live there and enjoy the fellowship of summer family reunions every five years as hundreds of relatives from all over the United States, Canada, and Germany have gathered in Turtle Lake over the past 20 years or more. The Presser brothers from Oberstaufen Germany, Karl and Adi Presser, always attended the reunions regularly and brought a special joy to the cousins who attended.
Esther's family also lived on a farm in Vida, MT for a time and supplemented their income with the sale of milk from their dairy cows. As a small child it was her job, along with her brother Mickey who lead the horse and plow in the field while she dropped the peas they were planting. They also owned and operated a restaurant in Terry, MT for a while before moving to Redondo Beach CA in the early 40's.
