Ernie Andrews, a San Pedro resident for over 60 years, passed away June 27th at the age of 95. Ernie was born is South Philadelphia in 1906 as the only child of Achille and Louise Andrews. He settled in San Pedro in the mid 1930s and worked in the shipyards as an electrician during World War II. He served in the army in 1944 -1945 as a rifleman with the 9th infantry division in Europe where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and crossed the Remagen Bridge. After the war, he worked as a food service consultant until he retired in 1995. In January of 2000, he lost his wife Phyllis after 49 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his oldest son Richard in 2000. He is survived by his daughter Antoinette Brilliant of Carlsbad, son David (Anita) of San Pedro and son Dean (Nancy) of San Pedro along with grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Over the years, he was active in the San Pedro Pirate Booster Club and the San Pedro Elks Lodge. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at the San Pedro Elks Lodge, 1748 Cumbre Drive, San Pedro on Friday, July 5th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation to the San Pedro Elks Scholarship Fund be made in his name.
