Ford, Erma Kathryn Spangler Perdue, 82, of Torrance, California, died peacefully at home Saturday March 6, 2004, after a brief illness. Erma was born May 13, 1921 in Youngstown, Ohio. A teacher and librarian, she earned her bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts at Ohio Wesleyan University and her master's degree in Library Science at the University of Chicago. Erma will be most remembered for her love, dedication and support for her children and grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren brought her an enormous sense of joy and pride throughout her life. Erma also found great pleasure in reading classic literary works and participated in numerous Great Books discussion groups throughout her life. Many friends who knew her in her later years enjoyed exchanging lively ideas about social issues with her during daily gatherings over coffee and breakfast. She loved living in her ''little pink house on the hill'' in Torrance and relished time spent reading and writing at the ocean. Erma is survived by her three daughters, Janet Ford of Torrance, Imo-Jean Carlson of Woodside, California (and husband Bill Carlson) and Peggy Good-Cordero of Lompoc, California (and husband John Cordero); her six grandchildren, Jason Good, Mickaela Good, Sarah Carlson, Willie Carlson, Nicholas Cordero and Jason Cordero; one great-granddaughter Chloe Cordero, and numerous good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Dr. Earl W. Ford in 1998. At her request, no formal memorial service will be held. Erma requested that friends and family share their memories and raise a toast in her honor when informally gathered together. Cremation arrangements by White and Day Mortuary.
