Elizabeth Ann Lancon, a 45 year resident of Torrance and most recently a resident of Atherton Baptist Homes in Alhambra, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Alhambra. She was born Elizabeth Ann Rippetoe in Middlesboro, KY on November 6, 1930. Ann met Curtis Lancon through mutual friends. They were married in April 1952 and took up residence in Vicksburg, MS. When Ann had just about enough of the hot sticky humid summers in Mississippi and Curtis found work in the booming aerospace industry, they picked up their roots and moved to sunny Southern California where together they raised 4 children and were active in community service for over forty years. Ann was a devoted wife and mother, volunteering countless hours in support of her children's activities and interests through Little League Baseball, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, AYSO Soccer and PTA. In addition, Ann was most fond of her opportunity to combine her office skills and creativity with her love of Jesus Christ in her role as the secretary for Calvary Baptist Church in Gardena until her retirement. She was a dyed-in-the-wool Dodger Fan, following every aspect of the team season after season. She was a voracious reader of mystery and suspense novels and a master at crossword puzzles. She was first and foremost a servant of Jesus Christ and a friend to all, with a sweet spirit, a delightful sense of humor and a heart as big as the sky. Ann is survived by her sister Jean Grigsby; Daughter, Gail Lancon; Sons, Jim Lancon, Kenneth Lancon and wife Devette and Michael Lancon; Granddaughter, Caitlin Lancon; Grandsons, Justin Lancon and Kyle Lancon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Curtis Lancon and parents, Barton and Frances Rippetoe. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Atherton Baptist Homes, Merriam Chapel. A reception will follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon. All are also welcome to attend the burial service to be held at Inglewood Park Cemetery at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Atherton Baptist Homes, 214 S. Atlantic Blvd., Alhambra, CA 91801-3298, ATTN: Miriam J. Davis.

  1. Ann was a very special lady and I will miss her very much. We worked together at Calvary Baptist for many years (she as church secretary & I as staff secretary) and I have many fond memories of that time together. She was fun, upbeat, positive and loved the Lord with all her heart. You are home at last Ann!

  2. Ann was such a wonderful lady. She was always friendly to me, was highly supportive of our mission work, and was always concerned for my family. She truly looked at others, as encouraged in the Bible, as more important than herself. What a powerful testimony and what a powerful legacy.

  3. Ann blessed so many of us at Calvary. We were blessed by her dedication and faithfulness as church secretary. She set a great example as a servant of the Lord. It was a joy to know her.
