Elizabeth Aiken June 7, 1924-August 12, 2009 Betty was born Elizabeth Rose White in Brattleboro, Vermont on June 7, 1924 and passed into eternal life at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance on August 12, 2009 surrounded by her daughter Carol, son-in-law Frank, and members of her extended family, Summer Graves and Clare Brown. Betty grew up in Vermont and graduated from Brattleboro Union High in 1942. She was married to James R. Aiken and raised her two children in the small Vermont community before moving to California with her family in 1960. She was employed at the Aerospace Corp until she retired in 1987. Following retirement she moved to her mountain home in Frazier Park and lived happily with her many cats until returning to the South Bay in 2004. She loved Frazier Park because it reminded her of the hills near Putney, Vermont where she enjoyed her summers at the family vacation home. She is survived by her son James Aiken and her daughter Carol Holmes of Torrance; grandchildren Ryan and JT; nephews Walter White, Pastor of Faith Community Church in Brattleboro and Robert White of Westminster Station, Vermont. She was predeceased by her husband James in 1979. A special thanks to the many members of the ICU medical staff at LCMH that provided loving care to Betty during her final days. A Visitation service will be held at Rice Mortuary, Torrance at 10am on Wednesday August 19, 2009. She will be buried along side her husband in a private ceremony at Riverside National Cemetery the following day.
