December 12, 1908 ~ June 28, 2006
Baer, Leoni a 39 year resident of Torrance, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in Torrance. Born in Chemnitz, Germany, Leoni was 97 when she died. Leoni grew up, married, and raised a family in Germany amidst two world wars and the terrible political upheavals that beset Europe during a large part of the twentieth century. She and her husband lived in what became known as East Germany. But their only daughter, Margit, met and married an American student she met in Berlin. This caused her and her husband to escape from East Germany and settle in the West. Leoni finally came to the United States when her husband died in 1965.
Leoni loved America and developed many deep and long lasting friendships here. She is survived by Grandson Bill Berry of Burbank, CA, Granddaughter Allison Berry Moore of Walnut, CA, and Son-in-law William Berry of Torrance, CA. A memorial service will be held at White & Day Colonial Chapel on Friday, July 14, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with a reception following from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Burial at sea will follow on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 10:00 A.M.
