Eleanor (Elly) Cree Edwards 1923-2012 Eleanor Cree Edwards, a lifelong resident of the South Bay area, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 peacefully in her sleep at home. Elly grew up in Hermosa Beach and graduated from Redondo Union High School. She married Alden (Ed) Edwards in 1946 and they bought their Redondo home soon thereafter. Aside from an 8 year temporary assignment in Florida, they lived in this Redondo home their entire lives. Elly was very proud of a long career as an executive secretary and assistant with local aerospace firms. After raising a family of 3 sons and retiring, Elly volunteered at Torrance Memorial Hospital, logging 25 years in the E.R., and serving two terms as the Volunteer Auxiliary president. She was also a proud life-long member of The Dianas and P.E.O. where she met so many of her friends. After their retirement, Elly and Ed traveled all over the world. She had an insatiable zest for life; she eagerly courted adventures as they came her way and never let the march of years stand in her way. Elly enjoyed full value from her 88 years and was a role model to many young people she met. Elly is pre-deceased by her husband, Alden, and leaves behind her three sons: Eric and his wife Michele, James, and Jeffrey. She has 5 grandchildren, Eric Jr, William, Cristina, Joshua, and Jenna, and countless nieces, nephews and their offspring, Family and friends were the core of Elly's life. She will be deeply missed. An open memorial celebration of Elly's life will be held at the Rice Mortuary, Saturday, April 21 at 2pm (5310 Torrance Blvd in Torrance) and will be followed by refreshments and socializing immediately afterward at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made on her behalf with the Torrance Memorial Health Care Foundation.
