Elda M. Turnacliff, a long-time resident of Palos Verdes Estates, passed away on Friday, February 12, at Torrance Memorial Hospital, after a 10-year battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Fernald, Iowa, Elda was 79 when she died. Elda graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. She did graduate work in psychology and economics and worked as a research assistant at the University's Industrial Relations Center. Years later she resumed her studies, in music. Elda was a member of the Neighborhood Church of Palos Verdes since 1958. An accomplished vocalist, she sang for many years in the Covenant Choir. She also served on the board of directors of the South Bay Chamber Music Society and was active with the Baroque consortium and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Many Peninsula residents knew Elda as Manager and Buyer of George Finley Jewelers, a position she held for nearly 20 years. Elda is survived by her daughter, Anne Turnacliff, of Paris, France; son, Brian (Emma) Turnacliff of Guangzhou, China; sister, Thelma (Gene) Derfler of Salem, OR; brother, Robert G. (Lynore) Brekke of Redondo Beach, CA; and brother, Paul Brekke of Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Severie Brekke; brother, Marion Brekke, sister, Marjorie Oliver; brother, John Brekke; sister, Verna Connery; and husband of 48 years, Dr. Robert Turnacliff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the music fund at the Neighborhood Church, 415 Paseo de Mar, Palos Verdes Estates, CA 90274. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 19, at 11:00am, at the Neighborhood Church, 415 Paseo de Mar, Palos Verdes Estates, CA 90274. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
