(1927 – 2016) Elbe Mekjian passed away on December 8, 2016 from causes related to old age. She was 89. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts on February 27, 1927, her family moved to Long Beach, Long Island, New York at a young age, where she lived until coming to California in the early 1950's. She graduated from high school at the age of 16, Business College at the age of 18, and spent her career working as an executive secretary for various firms such as Seagram's and McGraw-Hill in New York City before spending the remainder of her career until retirement with Davids & Royston Flower Bulb Company in Gardena. In 1955 she married Harry Mekjian with whom she was married for 59 years until his death in 2015. Elbe was an avid reader, loved to travel, dance, have parties and go to USC football and basketball games. She loved her family and friends and never met a stranger. Elbe is survived by their two sons Mark and Rob; granddaughters Sophie and Audrey and daughters-in-law Julie and Angela. A graveside ceremony will be held on December 28th at 11:30am at Inglewood Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elbe's honor to St. James Armenian Church, 4950 West Slauson Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90056.
