Edwin Wiltsey Hawthorne Edwin M. Wiltsey, 87, of Hawthorne passed away of heart failure on April 11, 2008. Ed was born in Mapleton, Iowa on September 18, 1920. Ed was a World War II veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre for the U.S. Army Air Forces. He had been an aircraft mechanic/welder, retiring in 1982 from Hughes Helicopters in Culver City. Ed enjoyed playing bingo, and gambling at Las Vegas and Indian Casinos. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Marie Wiltsey in 1996. Ed is survived by his daughter, Lori Mendolla and her husband, Warren Wegerer, of Westlake Village; brother Virgil Wiltsey of Hawthorne; sister Marjorie Hazel of St. Petersburg, FL; 5 grandchildren (Daniel Mendolla, Robert Mendolla, Sheryl Jennings, Rebecca Zunini, and Cheri Lynn Sappington) and 9 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, April 18 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Rice Mortuary in Torrance. Graveside service will be held on Friday, April 18 at 2:00 PM at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach.

  1. As one of his great grand-children he will be greatly missed. We wrote to each other a couple of times a year. I will miss that. He was a very good man and was very loved. I guess it took a while for them to rejoin but he and grandma will be together for eternal life. With all our love, Amanda, John, and Zachrey Zimdars

  2. My dad, Everett Smith, spoke often of his Uncle Eddie and how much fun he was to be around. He will be missed by all of us and the family is in our prayers.
