September 18, 1934 ~ January 20, 2006
Dorothy Jean Coyoca, a long time Redondo Beach resident, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2006, of pulmonary fibrosis at Torrance Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on September 18, 1934 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is survived by her grieving husband, Gabriel Coyoca, to whom she would have been married 50 years in August of this year. She is also mourned by her daughter Gia and son-in-law Michael Alarie, her daughter Lucia and son-in-law Mark Bucklin, her daughter Clarissa and son-in-law George Borkowski, her son, Gabriel and daughter-in-law Peachjunette Coyoca, and her four loving grandchildren, Olivia and Andrew Bucklin, Camille Borkowski, and Kainoa Coyoca. They all miss her terribly and wish her Godspeed and peace.
A devoted Wolverine, Dorothy graduated from the University of Michigan with both a Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s degrees in English. She was a voracious reader, a prodigious gardener, and a world traveler visiting Europe, Asia, Australia, Mexico, and Hawaii, but most frequently, the Philippines, and always enjoyed new places and cultures. Her greatest passion, however, was her family and their frequent gatherings.
Please join the family to mourn Dorothy’s departure and celebrate her life. A vigil will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2006, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. John Fisher Church, 5448 Crest Road in Rancho Palos Verdes, with committal following at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
