Donald Wayne DeHart peacefully passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on September 17, 2008, at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, CA. Don was born Nov. 12, 1924 in Gardena, CA to Agnes and Vernon DeHart. He grew up in Redondo Beach, CA, and attended Redondo Union High School, where he earned the last 7- inch letter in track that was ever given. Don gave up his last year of high school to join the Navy where he served from 1943-1946. He completed his last year after the war at Redondo Union High School, and received his Military Diploma. He was connected with submarines, and stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Don was admiral's aide for Admiral Lockwood, Honor Guard for President Roosevelt, and he saw Admiral Nimitz attain his fourth star. Don worked in the aircraft industry for forty years, beginning at Douglas Aircraft and retiring from Garrett Aviation in 1986. Don married his wife Ruth in 1951 and was father to their three children, Suzanne, Chris, and Annette. Don and Ruth celebrated 57 years of marriage this year. Don wrote short stories and poetry. He is listed in Who's Who of Poetry and on Don is survived by his wife Ruth and their three children. He will be missed by all. Visitation was held on Sunday, Sept. 21 from 1- 5 PM at McCormick's Mortuary in Redondo Beach, CA. Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 22 at 11 AM, also at McCormick's Mortuary, followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park in RPV. A small get-together was followed at the family home in South Torrance, CA.
