Donald Francis Kmieciak 1926 - 2007 Donald Francis Kmieciak, a 74-year resident of Hawthorne, died Sunday, January 14, 2007 at the age of 80 surrounded by his children and his wife of nearly 60 years, Imogene. Born in Los Angeles January 17, 1926, Donald attended St. Joseph’s School and graduated from Leuzinger High School in 1944. Following graduation, Donald joined the United States Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Kalinin Bay as a radio and radar operator during WWII in the Asia/Pacific theater. He was proud to have served his country and taught his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to be proud of our country and our flag. After his military service, he trained as an x-ray technician at Mission Hospital in Huntington Park as well as attending classes at El Camino College and the University of Southern California. On February 15, 1947 he married his true love, Imogene Gurley, whom he had dated for 6 1/2 years following their introduction by a mutual friend in the 8th grade when they were 14. He became the loving father of Barbara Jean in 1950 and Katherine Ann in 1952. He entered the x-ray sales business in 1956, retiring in 1989. Few families are blessed with such a loving, kind, wise, and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Grace Kmieciak, his brother Mitchell, and his son-in-law Dave Perdue. He is survived by his wife Imogene, his daughter and son-in-law, R. Max and Barbara Lewis, his daughter, Katherine Perdue, grandchildren Katie Seals (Kenny), Chester Perdue (Corinne), Michael Lewis (Melinda), Sada Perdue, Emma Perdue, his great grandchildren Spencer, Sam, and Preston Perdue, Camden and Gavin Seals. He is also survived by his brother Stanley Kmieciak (Dena), his sister Joan Rosauer, his brother-in-law Robert Larson, and his sisters-in-law Marcy Kmieciak and Pearl Gurley as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. A rosary is scheduled for Sunday, January 21, 2007 at 7:00 PM at Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503. The funeral mass will be Monday, January 22, 2007 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 West Slauson, Culver City, CA 90230 in the Risen Christ Chapel followed by the burial. A reception will follow at Rice Mortuary in the Lighthouse Reception Room. Flowers should be sent to Rice Mortuary. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
