Denise Marie Woodruff
Denise Marie Tomlinson Woodruff, a 50 year resident of Redondo Beach, CA, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 in Los Angeles, CA, after a three year battle with melanoma. Born in Hermosa Beach, Denise was 56 when she died.
Denise attended Redondo Beach schools and graduated from Redondo High School in 1978. She went on to obtain her Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills majoring in Finance. Denise had a long and successful career in the financial industry beginning as a teller at Bank of America. She held many positions at several financial institutions and ended her career as a Senior Vice-President at One West Bank.
Denise passionately loved her family and friends as well as all animals, in particular horses and German Shephard dogs. Her idea of a vacation was to work at a dude ranch, riding and caring for the horses, relaxing in jeans and cowboy boots. During the war in Afghanistan, Denise adopted several K9 units, regularly sending not only treats for the dogs, but food, toiletries, reading materials, and letters to the soldiers that cared for the fighting dogs.
She loved all music and would travel with her friends to hear new and upcoming bands when she was young. It is at one of these events where she met her husband, Robert, who was a guitar player and singer in a local band. She loved what she heard; she and Robert recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.
Denise is survived by her husband, Robert Edward Woodruff, son Benjamin Woodruff, daughter Michelle Woodruff, parents Raymond and Beverly Stefan, sisters Robyn Lunstad, Kathy Driscoll, and Karen Tomlinson, brothers Robert Tomlinson, Patrick Tomlinson, Frank Tomlinson, and Michael Stefan, sister-in-law Marie Wike, brothers-in-law Virgil Woodruff and Norman Woodruff, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Rice Mortuary, Torrance CA. A reception will follow at Rice's Lighthouse Reception Room until 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the Angeles Clinic Foundation for Melanoma Research in Denise's name.
