Deloris Marie Thiessen (89) Deloris Marie Thiessen, a 52 year resident of Redondo Beach, passed away Sunday, January 22nd, 2006 at her home. Born in Sanborn, IA, the youngest of four sisters, she was 89. She and her husband of 62 years, Otto, raised 5 children as a committed and dedicated team. She modeled education for her children, earning her Associate of Arts degree and continuing her education into her later years. Deloris ran for City Council and was a strong presence at Council meetings. Passionate about the arts, Deloris was a painter who specialized in portraits and still lifes. As a singer, she was a fixture in the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church choir. An active member in the church, she had a special place in her heart for its children. She made gifts for the children on the holidays and often donated her famous cooking to bake sales for the children’s camp fund. Deloris was known for her gregarious, outgoing nature and her love of sports-particularly basketball and football. She was a woman of strong values who will be forever remembered by those in her community, neighborhood, church, and in the hearts of her family. Her husband, Otto Thiessen and her son, Tommy Joe Thiessen, precede her in death. She is survived by sister, Margaret Getting of Hartley, IA; daughter, Inetta Dee (Bill) Johnson of Redondo Beach, CA; daughter, Diane Bonner of San Dimas, CA; daughter, Sue Ellen (Bill) Turner of Apple Valley, CA; son, Ted (Ela) Thiessen of Redondo Beach, CA; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 28th, 2006 at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach.
