Delores Spera, a long-time resident of Gardena, CA passed away at her home on Saturday, March 6, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Delores is survived by her husband of 60 years Joseph Spera; daughter Teri Greene and her husband Ron, son Joseph Spera and his wife Elizabeth, daughter Anna-Marie Meunier and her husband Tom, daughter Karen Crawley and her husband Craig; sister Betty Collins; brother Robert Messer and his wife Judy, and brother Lawrence Hurley. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Grandson Craig Crawely and his wife Sarah, granddaughter Heather Wood and her husband Gary, grandson Brandon Greene and his girlfriend Lauren Anderson, granddaughter Angela Crawley and grandson Joseph Thomas Spera. In addition, Delores was blessed with 3 great grandchildren Joshua, Justin and Giana Crawley. Delores was born on January 29, 1931 in Pottstown, PA. She moved to California with her family when she was two years old, attended Edison Junior High and Freemont High Schools where, through her best friend Jenny Mellone, she met and later married Joseph Spera. Delores worked at North American Aviation and later substitute taught at St. Anthony of Padua School in Gardena. While her children and grandchildren attended St.Anthony's, she was very active in the PTA and coordinated numerous fund raisers. A devoted wife and mother, Delores was involved in all aspects of her family's lives. Throughout her life, Delores loved to read as well as analyze history and politics. She enjoyed camping and houseboat trips, travelling around the world, and taking Cruises. But most of all, she loved spending time with Joe, the love of her life, her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and their spouses, and great grandchildren. Delores' legacy of love and devotion lives on through each of them. She is preceded in death by her father Ira Messer; her mother, Marilyn Hurley; her step father Lawrence Hurley; and her brothers Timothy and Ira Messer. The Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010 from 5:00 PM though 9:00 PM at Rice Mortuary in Torrance, CA. The Vigil will be held at 7:00 PM that same evening. The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 13 at 10:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the home of Ron and Teri Greene immediately following the Memorial Services at Holy Cross Cemetery.   2. What a blessing Dee was to her family and friends. I only met her a few times but her loving devotion to her family was very present. She has my respect for a life well lived. My condolences to all who will feel the great void left behind by her loss.

I have the fondest memories of Dee and your family and our many vacations together at Lake Mead. The day before my mom passed away in her sleep, she had just told me that Dee was battling cancer.
