David Harvey Barger II (Col., Ret., USAF) A 37-year resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, David passed away Saturday, March 4, 2006, at age 85. Born in Charleston, West VA, and grew up in Salem, VA; graduated from West Point in '43 with a long and distinguished 30-year Air Force career. David was a pilot in both World War II and the Korean War and received over 19 medals of commendation, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was also a devoted volunteer for nine years at Torrance Memorial Hospital. David is survived by his wife, Barbara (Rancho Palos Verdes), daughter, Ann (Hurst) Hannum (Cambridge, MA), son Bret (Cindy) Barger (Carlsbad, CA), grandson David Thomson (Cambridge, MA), and granddaughters, Jennifer (San Diego) and Melissa Barger (Santa Barbara). Memorial service will be Thursday, March 9, 2006, at 2:00 pm, St. Francis Episcopal Church, Palos Verdes Estates, followed by a celebration at the Palos Verdes Country Club.
