Marsee, Darren Stuart a 24 year resident of Redondo Beach, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2005 in Torrance. Born in Torrance, CA, Darren was 24 when he died. Darren spent every hour of every day embracing life. He surfed, traveled, loved his friends, loved his family, drove his bus, laughed and lived. Through all of these actions, and through his unfailingly bright and positive outlook, he forced everyone to love him with all of their hearts, and to in turn be better people themselves. He, more than anyone else, truly understood the words that he so often uttered – life is short and you only live once. He is survived by parents Fred & Sharon Marsee; brother, Kevin; twin sister, Megan and grandmother, Audrey Marsee, all of Redondo Beach, CA, and grandmother, Viola Kelley, of Riverside, CA. A party honoring Darren will begin at the Seaside Lagoon in King Harbor at 6:30 PM on Thursday, July 28th, with a tribute to Darren at 7:00 PM followed by a barbeque at 8:00 PM. Donations may be made in Darren’s name, earmarked for lymphoma research, to the Los Angeles Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: 6033 West Century Blvd. Suite 300 Los Angeles, CA 90045 (310) 216-7600 Or through the website: www.lls.org. 5. I’ve had the honor of knowing Darren for the past 20 years. From family vacations to leaving the trunk of Celine’s grandmother’s car open on rides to school to just getting waves from him as he drove by in his bus van- these are a few of the memories I’ll hold on to tightly because these describe exactly who Darren was- spirited, outgoing, funny, charismatic. He touched so many people in his life, and we are all better people for having known him. We will continue to be better people in life because we’ll always hold his memory close to our heart.

  6. It amazes me everyday to see your friends gather and see how much you affected each of their lives in your own special way, and in my mind I know you are looking down on all of them smiling. You will be very missed by all. . . My thoughts are with the Darsee Family. Angela

  10. Darren, this is me Yolanda, Angela’s mother. I’m so glad that I got to hug you and hold you close to my heart and whisper in your ear that everything was going to be OK. Unfortunately, what we wish for and what God has in store for us are not always the same. Rest well knowing that you are remembered with so much love by all of those whose life you touched. I was lucky to be among them. I remember your smile and it melts my heart. I know that you’re among those beautiful angels, Another beautiful angel has been added and his name is Darren.

  11. I had the opportunity to meet Darren years ago, he was the sweetest, most ougoing, loving, guy. My youngest son Cameron loved to go to Dive N’ Surf just to see Darren, because he always took the time to play with him and goof around. Cameron renamed him Disco Darren, for all of you at the pink party would understand. My little guy told me not to worry because God must of really needed Darren, but he would sure miss him, as we all will. My blessings and prayers go out to the Marsee family . . . Darren’s memory will live on in out hearts forever. Karen

  12. To The Marsee Family, Don’t think of him as gone away–his journey’s just begun; life holds so many facets– this earth is only one. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched… for nothing loved is ever lost– and he was loved so much. Darren was loved by many. Our Prayers are with you and your Family. With Love Karen & Sam Abrahamian

  13. Darren-I can’t even describe the pain that I am feeling right now. I will never forget you, or the good times we shared growing up together.

  14. The outpouring of support for Darren and his family is a testament to how loved he is and will continue to be. I will miss seeing Darren’s friendly smile and wave as he passed by at the beach or in his bus. My prayers are with the Marsees.

  15. It’s true what they say, the people that you surround yourself with reflect the person you are, and Darren was an incredible person with an incredibly caring group of friends. He will truly be missed. My heart goes out to the Marsees during this difficult time.

  16. I do not know anyone else who could have possibly taught so many people so much. Darren was a walking prophet amongst us with a true purpose. I now know how to live, laugh, and love. 25. With so much written and said about the Bus recently it made me stop and think; only Darren could make a cultural icon even more famous. The bus had the most amazing ability to make the shortest of rides feel like road trip. As a passenger it was great to see so many smiles and waves from people who could see how much fun we were having “cranking tunes” and talking over the PA. He cherished that bus almost as much as the people riding along with him. The bus continues to make people smile, now as a reminder of how much everyone loves and misses him. Darren, thanks for so many good times. All my love to Fred, Sharon, Megan & Kevin. Love, Chris

  26. I still can’t believe he is gone. Double D was a cool cat and an awesome friend to my bro. He’s in a better place and will forever be missed and never forgotten. Megs and family my heart goes out to you.

  27. “And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” And we had some DAMN good ones! Love ya Bro

  28. Darren, In reading your guest book it is obvious that you were born to be a teacher, but not necessarily just one in a classroom. Your approach to life had a profound impact on so many people as was shown at the beach on Sunday July 24th. You taught us all how to enjoy life just a little bit more. There is no lesson more important than that. I will not consider you gone because to be gone you would have to be forgotten. With so many people holding a memory of you in their hearts you will live on forever in all of us. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Marsee family and all who were touched by Darren.

  29. I was very sorry to hear of Darrens passing, our children are our life, he is now your angel, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May God Hold you in the Palm of His Hand. God Bless

  30. D-man, We will miss you with all of our hearts but will remember all the good times. All the parties, Puerto, and even South Western breakfast at your house. The impact you made on our lives we will never forget. Love Always, Eddie and Tina

  31. D-Man: I’ll miss you. You always made sure everything was cool in my life. I was younger than you but you always treated me as an equal. What I’ll miss the most is seeing you drive in the tightest vdub bus in the south bay.

  32. You were an incredible friend, I feel honored to have grown up with you. You taught me how to enjoy every passing moment and live life to the fullest. I will miss but never forget you.

  33. Megan, I think about you every day. Darren was a genuine friend to everyone he met and I feel privileged to have known him.

  34. Darren was one of my brother’s best friends…and for that alone…I thank the Lord above. My brother is Adam Moore…but I think most of you call him “Bots”…I don’t even want to know what that means! 🙂 I first met the infamous “D-Man” at Dive N’ Surf, as Adam seemed to visit Darren at work almost every day. The fews times I did go with my brother, I always left the store in a better mood than when I got there. And it wasn’t the new clothes that brigthened my day…it was Darren. His electric smile, his charming personality, his amazing sense of self…who wouldn’t want to go visit Darren every time he was working! From the one and only time I ever wore a tennis outfit into Dive N’ Surf, Darren started challenging me to a tennis match (in which he guaranteed he would kick my butt)! He promised that if we played — he would wear a head-band, wrist-band, and the “old school” short-short tennis shorts. What a great sense of humor… Not having known Darren for all that long, I can truly say that I am forever changed for having met this amazing soul. I have no idea why God took Darren as to what would seem to the rest of us as “too soon.” But I can’t help but think that maybe Heaven needed an Angel that was “larger than life”…an Angel that could teach the others how to laugh, love, and drive a VW bus like it was nothing…just as Darren did for those whose lives he touched while here on earth. On behalf of “Bots” and my entire family, we will NEVER forget you “D-Man”…and your MEMORY will live on in our hearts forever. And until we meet again in Heaven–I’ll be looking forward to our tennis match…you better be ready! 🙂 Love and prayers to the entire Marsee family– Christina Moore

  35. What a beautiful “Celebration of Darren’s Life” on Thursday. We should all be remembered and loved as Darren is. And live life to the fullest every single day. “To the world you might be one person, but to one person you just might be the world”. Julie Bassine

  36. My very best thoughts and wishes are with the entire Marsee family. Darren will be deeply missed by each and every person who was lucky enough to have met him. Best wishes.

  37. You from California, me from Melbourne but it was Amsterdam that brought us together! Our time together is most certainly a case of quality over quantity. That bike ride through the streets of Amsterdam, the absinth in Czech, getting terribly lost in Munich, you got so excited about buying a new hoody at Oktoberfest, it sounds so minor but you always made me laugh! I think about our 12 days of travelling together all the time but I just can’t comprehend never reminiscing those moments with you again. I’m not good with words and I am still in shock but to Darrens family, please know that from the bottom of my heart, my thoughts are with you. Darren was the most beautiful, gentle person. His smile was contageous and I am sure you will have an abundances of love and support from family and friends in Redondo Beach but please know that he has touched people all over the world and there is one girl in Melbourne who is going to miss him very much xxx

  38. Dear Fred, Sharon and family – May God keep you safe and help you find peace. We look forward to seeing Darren’s smile again. What a gift you had – even if he was on loan.
