Cruz Estrada, was born September 14, 1923 in El Paso, Texas, to Alberto and Soledad Vega, she was one of six children. She had three brothers Lorenzo, Jose and Francisco Vega, and two sisters Isabel and Antonia. She married Mauro Rivera and the couple had two boys, Thomas and Mauro (Jr) Rivera (Chino). Her husband was killed in World War II, in action. She later moved to Los Angeles, California in the late 1940’s. She met and soon married Serapio Estrada and the couple had three children together, Albert, Maria (Lola) and Robert Estrada. They were divorced in 1973. When her youngest was old enough she starting working at the Los Angeles School district in the Cafeteria, she retired after 20 years. She then began babysitting some of her grandchildren/great grandchildren and they all loved her so much. She was able to share stories and life experiences that her grandchildren can cherish forever. She had a way of making each one think they were her "favorite". She has always been surrounded by loving family and friends and was called "mom" by many. She was a strong independent woman and taught us all valuable lessons in life. She was always busy, whether it be cooking her Amazing dishes, cleaning to perfection or gardening with her talented green thumb. She loved her flowers and always had a beautiful garden outside and some of the most beautiful house plants inside. She had compassion for animals and always had a furry companion that she cared for. Although she didn’t attend church often, she was always a Catholic, and a believer in God and dedicated many years to praying the rosary every day. She was blessed to have so many wonderful years to share memories with her family. From her children all the way to her great-great grandchildren. She will live within all of us and will forever be missed.
