Cleo Edward Blanchet After having a wonderful Christmas evening of love and fellowship with his family, Cleo Edward Blanchet, 89, formerly of Gardena, left his assisted living home in Chino, California to spend eternity with Jesus. Cleo was born on July 17, 1917, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to John Edward and Harriet Lorraine Talley Blanchet. After the untimely death of his father, in 1923, he moved to Los Angeles with his mother and younger sisters. Graduating from George Washington High School, he earned his A.A. degree in art, and was very proud to have attended some classes at U.S.C. He served his country boldly in the Army Air Corps during WWII, being stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines, receiving many medals and attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. In July 1946 he went to a dance where he met the love of his life, Elena Marie Cecere. They were married in Inglewood the following Valentine's Day. On June 14, 1949, they made their home on 149th street in Gardena and, with the exception of 2006 when complications due to Parkinson's disease caused Mr. Blanchet to reside in assisted living facilities, raised their family and lived there happily. A graphic artist and technical illustrator by trade, Mr. Blanchet worked for North American Rockwell and Rusco International. He loved the aerospace industry and, through his detailed illustrations, helped advance technology in many fields. Mr. Blanchet loved to read and learn and was a lifelong member of the Air Force Association. His special interests were in stamp collecting, gem stone cutting, photography, astronomy, aeronautics, and hydroponics, although he had books on almost every subject imaginable. His goal in life was to pass on as much information as possible and to create a hunger for learning in those around him, especially his children and grandchildren. Later in life, he received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and loved talking about Him to everyone who would listen. He truly enjoyed worshipping at Harbor Christian Church and attending the Jolly Seniors activities. Mr. Blanchet is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elena, his daughter Roanne Blanchet Holliman of Chino Hills, his son Dale K. Blanchet of Torrance, son-in-law Thomas Holliman, daughter-in-law Corina Blanchet, his sister Arlene Bruce of Long Beach, 9 grandchildren: Angelina Kalani Holliman, Susanna Noelle Holliman, Laura Naomi Holliman, Joanna Marie Holliman, Ron Michael Blanchet, Daenera Marie Blanchet, Andrew Joseph Blanchet, Christina Jesus Rodriguez, and Sergio Danniel Rodriguez, and one great-grandson, Martin Isaiah Rodriguez. Viewing is 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 with Funeral services at 10:30 at McMillan Mortuary, Gardena. Interment is at Green Hills Cemetery, Palos Verdes.

  1. Roanne, I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. My dad also worked for Rockwell and NASA in his prime. Perhaps they met there. My dad died of cancer in 1990 and there will always be a whole in my soul where he resided. Love, Chris
