Clayton G. Wannamaker passed away on May 16, 2010 at home, surrounded by his family. He was a life-long Californian, born in Alhambra on Oct. 9, 1926. He graduated from Alhambra High and went on to serve in the Navy during World War II. He met his loving wife, Ann, while stationed in Virginia, and they were married in July 1949. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1950, in Chemical Engineering, was hired by Dow Chemical at their Gardena Plant and worked at Dow Western Division in Seal Beach, Pittsburg, Long Beach and Torrance until his retirement after 35 years. Clayton was an Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster, mentoring young men and sharing his love of hiking and camping. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for his many years of service to the Boy Scouts. Clayton is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann, daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law, Richard, granddaughter, Annelise, son, Douglas, daughter-in-law, Kandis, and grandson, Joshua. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, 3650 McClintock Ave, Ste. 500, LA, CA 90089-1451 or the Boy Scouts of America, 800 Ellinwood Way Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
