April 27, 1925 ~ October 22, 2007
Apostol, Clara Louise, a 54 year resident of Torrance, passed away in her sleep on Monday, October 22, 2007. Born in Youngstown, OH, Clara was 82 when she died.
Clara worked in a steel mill in Pittsburgh at the start of WWII and joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. She later graduated from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh. She was a long term member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach. In addition to the many years of friendships with those at St, Andrews, she loved her many friends in the South Bay area, particularly those of the Manhattan Beach Senior's Center. Clara joined the Chi Epsilon Sorority, Alpha Omega Chapter and developed some of her closest friendships. To her family, neighbors, and many friends, Clara was a generous and supportive person.
She is survived by her son, Richard Apostol, of Malvern, PA, daughters, Toni Rowlen of Torrance, CA, and Barbara Apostol of Irvine, CA, and a sister, Doris Abbott, of Shutesbury, MA. She also has six grand children. She was preceded in death by her husband Nick Apostol, to whom she was married for 41 years.
Private services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2007. A celebration of Clara's life will be held at her home in Torrance on December 2, 2007. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations in her memory be made by her friends to their favorite charity or organization.
