Christopher Lee Mathews

Christopher Mathews of Redondo Beach, California passed away on December 23, 2014. Chris was employed for 30 years with the City of Redondo Beach and enjoyed spending time with his beloved son, Shay Mathews, of Hermosa Beach, CA and visiting his mountain home in Running Springs, California. He was very active in Union causes at work, was a steward for many years, and worked tirelessly to better his workers' conditions. He loved to fish, ride his motorcycle, and loved his punk rock. Chris was an all around people person and made friends quickly. Wherever he went, people gravitated to him as he was a very magnanimous person who would give you the shirt off his back, if you deserved it. Not only will his family and friends miss him, but so will the people he had yet to meet. Left to treasure his memory are his Mother, Judy Mathews, his sister, Dana Mathews-Donk and husband Rick, his brother, Michael Mathews and wife Mitzi, his nephews Jeremy Mathews, Jonathan Mathews, wife Lorraine, and their children, Asia Mathews, Luke Mathews, as well as his beloved girlfriend Janis Verret, and a multitude of treasured friends and extended family members. We each light a candle in our hearts to his memory which will live on within us for all eternity. A viewing will take place Friday, January 30, 2015 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Rice Mortuary in Torrance, CA. On the following day, January 31, 2015, a burial service will be held at Pacific Crest Cemetery at 11:00am. On the same day (January 31), at 3:00pm, a memorial service will be held for Chris at the Moose Lodge in Redondo Beach, CA. All are welcome. Shay has created a website dedicated to his dad.
