Christine Patricia Schenker (December 29, 1951 - July 26, 2014). Chris passed unexpectedly at home in Hermosa Beach. She is survived by her husband of 23 years and life partner of 30 years, Steve, and their loving 21 year old daughter, Sarah. She also leaves her older and younger brothers, John and David, and their respective families as "Aunt Chris." Born in Pasadena, Chris Wilson was raised in the San Gabriel Valley and graduated from Monrovia High School in 1970. She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Immaculate Heart College. Chris's career took her through a number of positions in Marketing with her most recent job of 10 years with Hilton Hotels Corporation in Beverly Hills. When the company moved out of the area in 2009 she effectively retired. She greatly appreciated the friendships she established in each of her roles. Chris was an avid reader, she loved to sew costumes and clothing for Sarah, she enjoyed crafts projects, and she always underestimated her cooking skills. In 1984 Chris moved to Hermosa Beach where she became girlfriend to Steve Schenker. They married in 1991. In 1992, Sarah, the couple's pride and joy, was born. Although Chris's professional life and accomplishments were important to her, she took on the job of raising Sarah with uncompromised zeal. She was involved with her daughter's young life, and the lives of many of her classmates, as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She later took on organizational leadership positions in Sarah's aquatic sports pursuits in club water polo, high school water polo and high school swimming. Chris didn't limit her efforts to just helping Sarah excel in these endeavors. She took on these roles with the goal of making these activities the best they could be for all who participated. Working with the young people of her community gave her joy, satisfaction and purpose. The magnitude of the impact she made in their lives can still be seen today. She leaves behind a family and community who already miss her dearly. A memorial celebration will be held at 10 am on Sunday August 24th in the "Lower Meadow" at the South Coast Botanic Garden on Palos Verdes Penninsula. Please dress comfortably. Flowers can be sent directly to the site on the day of the service or donations can be made to Heal the Bay.

  2. oh, just learned of Chris’s passing yesterday. What a neat gal. so glad I ran into her about 2 months ago at lunchtime. I was with friends and I said to please excuse me but I wanted to chat with one of my old mom friends – she looked beautiful and was happy. Steve and Sarah, I hold you both in my prayers and send much love during this impossible time……..hugs…. Janine and the Bozeman family

  3. There are never words enough to soothe the sorrow at a time like this. I guarantee you though, Sarah and Steve, that there is tremendous solace in all the stories and laughter you will hear at this week’s memorial service for Chris, and in your loving memories of all you shared. It is hard to realize she is gone, but soon I hope you will see and feel that Chris is looking down on you, guiding you even still through the remembered gesture or nod of the head, and yes, her million watt smile! She loved you both to the moon and back. We were all lucky to be touched by her. I send hugs, healing thoughts and strength to you both at this time.

  4. Dear Sarah,

I worked with your mother for several years at
Hilton. She was such a great gal and I enjoyed talking with her on so many occasions. She was creative and bright and was always there for advice. I really enjoyed working with her.

One of the brightest topics of our conversations was
you. I hope you know, and I’m sure that you do, that you were her
universe. Everything you have done and everything that you will do is what she will always be the proudest of. You are her rock star and I’m so happy that she got to see you turn into such a lovely young lady with a bright future ahead of you.

I will not be able to be there on your day of celebration but I will keep good memories always and think of you and your father on this day of celebration.

  5. Brad and I worked with Chris so many years ago at Transamerica. In recent years, we would periodically see her on the Manhattan Beach pier at the Pier to Pier swim. Our conversations would pick up right where they left off! Chris was always so warm and friendly and she would make us laugh. She always exuded such positive energy. We are just heartbroken for your loss and your family are in our prayers during this sad time. Brad & Denise Evans

  6. Dear Sarah, I had the privilege of working with your mom on the MCHS girls water polo uniforms one wonderful year. Cory was a senior and you were a new player, and Chris enthusiastically jumped in to make a huge contribution to the team. She was generous beyond belief, offering her many talents and resources to give you girls the best uniform in water polo history! I am sure she continued this pursuit every year. I have great memories of collaborating with her on designs–we had fun. I know you’ll carry on her spirit of boundless generosity and teamwork in all you do. Our most heartfelt sympathies, Ann, Cory, and Mike Pitts

  7. Even though I only knew Chris for a few years, she gave you the feeling that you had known her for such more. I loved the way she showed such pride in her family, and how her daughter Sarah, played such a center role in her life. No wonder Sarah has become such an incredible lady. Chris, we will miss you. Your humor, your empathy for so many, and your quest for knowledge are just a few strengths that I admired in you. We will think of you often, and hold Steve and Sarah in our hearts with the sadness and loss they must feel……

  8. Dear Sarah your mom was a wonderful person and made such an impact on Emily’s early water polo career. I always loved sitting and talking to her pool side. Please know we are thinking of you and your family during this time. Love The Ewart Family
