Carolyn Louise Loether of Rancho Palos Verdes passed away on June 4, 2016 from cardiac arrest. She was 89 years old. Louise was born and raised in Washington State and graduated from Oroville High School. She received her Bachelor's Degree from University of California Berkeley and her Master's Degree from California State University Los Angeles, as well as her teaching certificate from the University of Washington. She taught in Kent and Seattle (Washington State) and part time in Germany for the U.S. Army where she was also a full time secretary for U. S. Army Intelligence. In California she taught in Montebello High School before moving to Rancho Palos Verdes in 1962, where she continued to tutor reading and ESL. She was married to Herman J. Loether in 1957, who preceded her in death March 25, 2011. She is survived by her son, Christopher P. Loether, a professor of anthropology at Idaho State University. She is also survived by her two sisters, Pat Kresek (Seattle) and Sharon Gredvig (Spokane), and her brothers Alfred, Frank and Art (all of Oroville), as well as many nieces and nephews. Her memorial mass will be held at St. John Fisher Church (Rancho Palos Verdes) at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016.
