Carol Ellen (Tolvstad) was born in Wisconsin on January 3, 1933, and came to California at age 3. After graduating from UCLA, above all she was a teacher for many years in Rick Island, Illinois and Oakland, California. She taught elementary grades except second grade and then college age students at Heald Business College for seven years. After coming south with Floyd, she worked at Jet Propulsion Lab for eight years including support for engineers working on the Galileo probe. Collecting dolls was an ongoing passion. She attended conventions in New Orleans, Denver, and often in San Diego. She and Floyd especially enjoyed their doll related Caribbean cruise. Travel to Hawaii with her family was a priority. Carol’s family stretched across the West. Janice is a teacher of developmentally disabled children in Montana, David works in a Seattle law firm, and Andrea has worked with computer graphics for TV. An abiding joy was sharing with husband Floyd in the lives of Lutheran congregations in Anaheim, San Jose, Oakland, Pasadena and Torrance as he ministered across California. She spent her final days, following a serious fall, at the Bay Crest facility while loved by members of First Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran, 2900 Carson, Torrance on Saturday, October 12 at 10:30am.
