Betty Mowery Last week Betty Mowery died peacefully at home surrounded by family at age 78 from complications of breast cancer. Mrs. Mowery was born in the Midwest and moved with the extended family to New Mexico to establish the family farm. She spent summers in Oklahoma with her grandmother and when she was 18 boarded a Greyhound bus bound for Los Angeles to train as a nurse at County – USC Medical Center. She was a dedicated health professional with a 32 year career as a Registered Nurse (RN) with Los Angeles County Health Services. She specialized in the operating room, with a two year term in trauma care, and worked at County-USC, Harbor- UCLA, the now defunct Long Beach General, and finally Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center where she retired as the Operating Room Supervisor. After retirement from Los Angeles County, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, and began a post retirement nursing career establishing and supervising the operating rooms with Reproductive Biology Associates. She is survived by her husband, two daughters and son, and three grandsons. Expressions of condolence may be made by donations in her name to the Cancer Program at Miller's Children's Hospital at Long Beach Memorial Hospital.
