Betty Dozier was born August 24, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas to the union of Mr. Cleveland Nisby and Mrs. Dorothy Rice Nisby. She passed November 12, 2011 at 11:30 pm at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Torrance, CA. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011, 11 am, at Lake Shrine, Windmill Chapel, 17190 W. Sunset Blvd., Pacific Palisades, CA. Betty grew up in Beaumont and graduated from Charlton-Pollard High School in 1961 and attended Texas Southern University, Houston, TX and Lamar University, Beaumont, TX. She later moved to Carson, CA and was active in civic affairs. She was the recipient of a special Congressional recognition for outstanding and invaluable service to the community and the Harmony Award on Unity Day in Carson for individual actions to promote harmony, unity and diversity on September 15, 2007 presented by the Carson City Council. After a long, successful career with Bank of New York Western Trust Co., managing multimillion-dollar accounts, she retired in December 2009. Her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Nisby White, preceded her in death on October 29, 1996. Survivors remaining to cherish her memories include her son, Ugene Dozier, II and wife, Lisa; grandson, Julian Dozier, Manhattan Beach, CA; father, Cleveland Nisby and wife, Dora, Beaumont, TX; stepfather, William White, Carson, CA; sisters, Linda Johnson and husband, Harvey, and Cheryl Caziere, Carson, CA; brother, Ronald Nisby and wife, Brenda, Anchorage, AK; stepbrother, Claver Kamau-Imani, Houston, TX; half-brother, Reginald Nisby and wife, Sharon, Fontana, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
