BERGSTROM, BERTIL R. (85) Born July 8, 1917. Passed away September 7, 2002 A resident of Manhattan Beach since 1968, he is survived by his son, Richard (Kathleen), daughter Bonnie (Tim Callahan), five grandchildren: Bruce, Lisa (Stewart), Kristin, Joseph, Arwen (GoodKnight), and five great-grandchildren: Brian, Terry, & Daniel, Jessica (Stewart) and Jacob. Born in Chicago, he studied drafting and radio technology; subsequently serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. in 1943. He moved to Los Angeles in 1944, entering the aerospace industry. First working at Bendix Aviation, he achieved the position of mechanical engineer, which was followed by employment for Litton Industries, as well as TRW, where he designed components for the Apollo moon flights and various satellite projects. He retired in 1979. His first wife, Aldona, passed away in 1972. Together they survived the death of their adored daughter Karen, in 1952. In 1978 he was wed to his childhood sweetheart Britta Pearsson (Carlson) and they shared seventeen joyous years before her passing. He had a passion for jazz, all things Swedish, and was continuously licensed since the 1940's, as amateur radio station W6WJE. He will be remembered by all of us for his gentleness, kindness, generosity, and wisdom.
