Berneice
Berneice Mary Grimes of Los Angeles Ca. died after a long bout with Parkinson's and Leukemia on Sunday morning, Sept. 19th, at her home. Services will be held Wednesday evening, Sept 22nd at 7pm at St. Margaret Mary Church of Lomita, Ca and burial will be 11am Thursday morning at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, Ca. Born March 15, 1916, in Little Falls, MN. She raised a family while serving the community teaching Religious Education, as well as collecting and delivering food and clothing to the needy. In her last years she baked 250 cookies every month for distribution to the homeless. She was being a proud member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Take Off Pounds Sensibly organization. In July of this year, Monsignor Patrick Thompson named Berneice as one of seven honorees at a special dinner recognizing the positive difference their work made in 5000-member St. Margaret Mary Parish. Mrs. Grimes is survived by sons John (Darlene) of Redondo Beach, CA and Patrick (Kathleen) of Ypsilanti, MI; daughter Mary Grimes of Lomita, CA; grandchildren Bryan, Lisa, Stephanie, Jason, Ryan, and Daniel; great grandchildren Priscilla and Kyle; her siblings, Ann Frisk, Hedy Cimenski, Mary Lou (Ray) Hansen, Jeanie (Fred) Piekarski, Joe (Auralia) Cimenski, and Harry Cimenski; sisters-in-law Margaret Cimenski, Tootie Cimenski, and Geneva (Gerald) deLabry; brother-in-law Leonard Grimes; and scores of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Helen and John Cimenski, brothers Leo, Frank, and Ambrose Cimenski, sister-in-law Jean and her loving husband Sherman H. Grimes. The family asks that memorials be made to St. Margaret Mary Christian Service, 25511 Eshelman Avenue, Lomita, CA 90717-2621.
