Bernard M. Clayton, Sr., aka Barny Clayton, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, October 5, 2016 of natural causes. Barny was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 23, 1928. Barny married June Thompson in 1951. After Barny's discharge from the U. S. Coast Guard, he and June moved to Torrance, CA to start a family, eventually raising four children.
After graduating from college, Barny started and successfully operated a State Farm Insurance Agency for 32 years. Barny was an active community service volunteer for many Torrance organizations, and an active member (and Past President) of the Harbor Area Model A Club for over 40 years.
Barny had a special talent for rebuilding and refurbishing Model A Fords. He also was gifted as a woodworker. He designed and built numerous pieces of furniture and display cases. Barny and June, his wife for 48 years, enjoyed hosting and entertaining neighbors, out-of-town friends, and relatives.
Barny's wife, June, passed away in November, 1999. Barny is survived by his sons, Bernard Jr., David, and Gregory: and daughter, Wendy: as well as son-in-law, Jay Malm: and daughters-in-law, Joan Clayton, and Jenny Yamada-Clayton. Barny had seven grandchildren: Dillon Clayton, Cody Clayton, Sarah Clayton, Katie Clayton, Jennifer Malm Cashin, Taylor Malm and Brittany Bunnag-Austin.
A memorial service is scheduled at 11:00am on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, 1551 El Prado, In Torrance.
