Bernard "Gene" Fosket, 72 of Torrance, CA passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Monday, September 14, 2009. Born in Soda Springs, Idaho, he moved as a young child to western Nebraska and attended Hemingford High School. He went on to attend the University of Nebraska where he played football in 1955-56. After serving our country in the U.S. Marine Corps for 4 years, he landed in Denver, Colorado where he met his wife of 46 years, Annette Phyllis Traxler of Minnesota. They were married in Huntington Park, CA and eventually settled in Torrance, where they have lived for the past 37 years. Gene retired as President of Plasma Technology, Inc. in 2002 after 33 years of service with the surface engineering company. He was a parishioner of St. Catherine Laboure Church in Torrance. He held office of President in The St. Vincent de Paul Society and was also an active member of The Holy Name Society. Gene was an avid sports fan of the Los Angeles Rams and the Nebraska Cornhuskers football teams. He enjoyed researching his family tree, and working on his computer. He coached his children in baseball and softball, and also served as Cub Scout Leader. He enjoyed watching and supporting his grandchildren in their sporting activities. He and his wife Annette enjoyed traveling abroad and touring the Mediterranean, The Holy Land, France, South America and Canada. He loved his family and five grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2009 from 5 to 9 p.m. (Rosary at 7:15 p.m.) at Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Boulevard, Torrance. Funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at St. Catherine Laboure Church, 3846 Redondo Beach Boulevard, Torrance. Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum, 5835 Slauson Avenue, Culver City. Reception to follow at the family home. In fact I thought about you Annette just the other day when I was at Little Co. of Mary Hospital. I appreciated his interest in, and contributions to our high school class news letter and in more recent years our correspondence on the Internet. We shared many experiences as students and I always admired his willingness to stand up for anyone he thought was being treated unfairly, and backed it up physically, if necessary. He was an outstanding athlete who never lost his interest in sports. He was obviously a devoted family man who will be deeply missed by them and by anyone who knew him.

  38. Annette, Sheila, Julie, and Matt, Annette, you and Gene were our first married couple role models when we moved in next door to you in Hawthorne. We enjoyed being your neighbors. Then you moved to Torrance, we moved to Torrance also. Through the years we have kept track of each other through lunches, phone calls, Christmas letters, weddings and showers. Thanks to Gene, as President of Plasma Technology, he showed our son one kind of engineering with a tour of the company. He gave Ryan some direction into a career path.
