BARBARA JEAN THOMPSON Barbara Thompson, 86, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018 in Manhattan Beach. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee on February 18, 1932, Barbara was a kind and loving wife, mother, sister, friend and neighbor who put the well-being of family and friends above all else. In 1942 she moved to Hawthorne California with her Mother Nancy, step-father Lester, and brother Vernon. She graduated from Leuzinger High School in 1951. After graduation, she worked in the Research and Development Department at Hughes Aircraft until her marriage. She met her future husband Robert “Bob” while enjoying the sand and surf during an outing at Hermosa Beach in 1948. They were married three years later and recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary together on September 1, 2018. In 1953 Barbara and Bob bought a home in Manhattan Beach where they raised their four sons. Guests to the home were surrounded by her spirit of creativity, displayed through Barbara’s original paintings, handmade curtains, curated family antiques, fantastic cooking, and her elaborate handcrafted themed holiday parties. Her tireless energy kept her busy with family (try raising four boys!), friends, and volunteer activities. She was a four-time Cub Scout Den Mother-one for each of her sons. During less hectic times you could find her painting, sewing, or creating family photo albums. In later years Barbara and Bob enjoyed traveling with their church group in a trailer they renovated. Barbara will be missed by her husband Robert, their four sons; Mark of Manhattan Beach, Dennis of Fresno, Jim and his wife Stacia of Kailua, Hawaii, Greg and his wife Tanya of Lawrence Kansas, Her brother (Jay) Lester Weaver Jr., and wife Jan of Phoenix Arizona. Grandchildren; Cole, Tiana, and Althea and Great-grandchildren: Anela, Mustang, and Nevaeh. The family would like to thank Barbara’s kind and loving care providers, Frances Reeder, Rissa Angerani, Rosie Angel, Emely Herbert, Maria Cundangan, Stephen, Bella, and Lucian. A short graveside blessing will be held at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 19, 2018. Please visit the guestbook at:
