Barbara Eleanor Muegenburg passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 in Ventura, California surrounded by her family. Mrs. Muegenburg recently celebrated her 91st birthday.
Mrs. Muegenburg was born in Los Angeles on July 15, 1912. She grew up in Glendale and completed her Associate of Arts degree at Glendale Junior College. She then attended UCLA, majoring in Food Science (dietetics). In her senior year, Barbara met Frederic T. ''Fritz'' Muegenburg. Barbara and Fritz married in 1937 making their permanent home in Redondo Beach. Both were very active in a variety of activities in the community. Barbara enjoyed her participation in the Diana's and the Women's Club. She served as Girl Scout Leader and President of Redondo Union High School PTA, receiving Life Memberships in honor of her service. Barbara had a passion for the work of the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and was a 35-year active member of the local South Bay Auxiliary of the hospital, serving as a Thrift Store volunteer, Christmas Card Chairperson, Treasurer, and President of the Auxiliary. Barbara's greatest joy was to be found in her weekly bridge games.
In 1998, she moved to Ventura and was a resident of the Ventura Townehouse, where she enjoyed bingo and her garden.
Mrs. Muegenburg is survived by her children: Ted, Margaret and Faye; daughter-in-law Dale Muegenburg; six grandchildren: Tom Rawlings, Pam Silagi, Marianne Cothern, and Melinda, Fritz and Paige Muegenburg; grandson-in-law Lee Cothern; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Victoria.
Funeral services are planned for Friday, September 19th at 10:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 408 So. Broadway, Redondo Beach with a reception to follow. Interment will be private at Pacific Crest.
