Long time Gardena resident Arthur Serrano passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the age of 84. Born in New York City on May 15, 1926, Arthur moved his family to Southern California in 1955, and, eventually settled in Gardena in January of 1956. He worked for several years in the aerospace industry, finally retiring in 1987 after 23 years at the McDonnell-Douglas facility in Torrance, CA. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Thelma; his brother, Paul; his son and daughter-in-law, Art and Madeline; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be held at McMillan & McCormick Mortuary in Gardena on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary celebration at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Redeemer Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum in Culver City; with the burial immediately after the services. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to either Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, CA or the American Heart Association.
