Carnes, Arthur Charles II Born in Boston, Massachusetts September 5, 1928. Passed away in Santa Monica, California February 5, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with pneumonia and congestive heart failure. Raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, he served in the Navy from 1945 to 1950. He was a crewmember aboard the USS Constitution during the last days of its active service. He moved to California in 1957. Survived by his loving daughters Kathleen Bliss (Gary) of Lake Placid, New York, Christine Wergeles (Alex), Ann Abraham (John); his longtime friend and devoted companion Analya Sater; sister Caroline Mulloy of Wakefield, Massachusetts; son John Carnes of Florida and former wife Muriel Carnes. Predeceased by son Arthur Carnes III in 1978. He will be missed most by his adored grandchildren and lights of his life Kinnon and Joshua Bliss, Luke and Samantha Wergeles, Taylor and Noah Abraham in addition to several nieces and nephews. A true original he will be remembered most for his acerbic wit, wry sense of humor and his indomitable spirit. “He never met a jelly donut he didn’t like.” Graveside services Friday, February 13, 11:00 a.m., Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave., Culver City. Reception following service at the Abraham Residence in Westchester, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in his memory to the American Heart Association
