Arnold
Arnie was born on a farm in Monroe, South Dakota. At age 11 he moved with his family to Pasadena, California, eventually relocating to Hawthorne where he lived for more than 70 years. A proud graduate of Leuzinger HS, he played varsity basketball graduating in 1948. Arnie was drafted into the US Army in January 1951. He completed his basic training at Camp Roberts, and was then shipped to Okinawa, Japan where he served 18 months during the Korean Conflict. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army, Arnie started working for his brother Clarence and brother-in-law Roy Graber at Southland Blinds in Lawndale. There Arnie met the love of his life, Shelly. The two were married 62 years and had three sons - Steve, Tim and Mike. Arnie is survived by his wife Shelly, sons Steve (Sheryl) and Mike (Lisa), daughter-in-law Carolyn and grandchildren Christina, Amanda, Rachel, Andrew, Catherine, Caroline and predeceased Cory Rose. Services will be held at 2 pm on Monday August 20 at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in memory of Arnie to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Irvine), Veteran's of Foreign Wars (Hawthorne), or the Greater LA Area Council BSA - Arnold C. Rothans Campership Fund.
