Armand
Mr. Armand Thomas Compagna, born in Morristown, Vermont on November 6, 1918, the ninth of 16 children; died at home, June 1, 2005 after a long illness, at age 86. A veteran of WW II he served his country as a sergeant in the Army Medical Corps in France and Iceland. Making his home in Redondo Beach, California he raised his two sons, J C (Jerry) and Roger while working as an aerospace assembler for McDonnell-Douglas, Northrop and later Garrett Air Research, from which he retired in 1982. A life-long Catholic, Armand was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach and later a parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church when the new church was built in Hermosa Beach in the late 1950’s. Active in a variety of church ministries over 40 years, Armand taught religious education, visited homebound parishioners, served as a Lector, Acolyte and Eucharistic Minister. He was a devout Catholic who participated in many a Scripture and spirituality class; always interested in learning more about his faith. For 18 years he also served in a variety of community activities including the “Friend to Friend” program at Beach Cities Health Care District. Armand enjoyed photography, playing his banjo and guitar, and was an avid Dodger fan. He was preceded in death by his son, J C (Jerry) and 11 of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son, Roger (wife: Debbie), brother Paul; sisters, Laurette and Sister Germaine; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Building Fund. Rosary will be offered on Monday, June 6th at 7 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, on Massey and Fifth Street, Hermosa Beach, California. Funeral Mass will be celebrated the following day at 10 a.m. in the church.
