Smulders, Anthony Peter, a 46 year resident of Los Angeles, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2009 in Los Angeles. Born in Oss, The Netherlands, Anthony was 66 when he died. Anthony was a member of Brothers of Our Lady, Mother of Mercy since 1959. Brother Anthony Smulders received his Ph.D. in physiology from U.C.LA. He became a professor in the department of biology at Loyola Marymount University in 1970. He served as Associate Dean of the College of Science and Engineering from 1972 till 1992. He was for many years the academic advisor of students who plan to become medical doctors. He was a long-term member of the Drug Advisory Board of the City of Los Angeles and the State of California in Sacramento. He was for many years active in the Youth Soccer organization in Southern California. He was the long-term moderator of the student organization, Alpha Delta Gamma. His surviving relatives are one sister and one brother in the Netherlands. His sister is Marianne Ploegmakers Smulders, wo is married with Gert Ploegmakers. Their married children are: Roel and Ilse (one child Teun); Jasper and Vanessa; Wouter and Dyanne His brother is Louis Smulders and his wife Fransje van Nuland. Their two married children are Sietske and Joost (one child Loek); and Tim and Jantiene. His older brother, Peter Smulders married with Wilhelmien van den Heuvel has passed away. His youngest sister, Annette Smulders, also passed away The memorial service will take place on Monday, May 4, 10:30am in the Sacred Heart Chapel at Loyola Marymount University (1 LMU Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90045). The burial service at the Catholic Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard is private. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to LMU's Archbishop Zwijsen Scholarship Fund for premed students.
