Long-time Torrance resident Anne Hayward passed away peacefully in her home June 24 just 26 days before her 105th birthday. Anne was born of Jacob and Matilda Skube July 20, 1916, in Pueblo, Colorado.. She was the last survivor of 13 children. Anne traveled to California during WWII as a registered nurse and shortly thereafter met and married her husband, Noel Hayward. They settled on Date Avenue in 1950.
Anne had a 30-year RN career at Torrance Memorial Hospital. In retirement she enjoyed socializing with the Nativity Catholic Daughters, playing bingo at the Gardena Elks Club, and bowling at Palos Verdes Bowl. She was an avid LA Dodger fan and left them as World Champions.
Anne was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Noel, and leaves as survivors: daughters Patty Koester (Gene) and Noeline Elexis (Howard), grandchildren Steve Thompson (Alexis Oakland), Scott Thompson (Claudia) and Erin Reddy (Sean); great-grandchildren Riley Thompson (Annie Mears), Dylan Thompson, Isabella Thompson, Kate Reddy, Emma Reddy, and a new great-great-grandson Quincy Thompson.
We want to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. William E. Kim for his excellent medical care over the years and to Isabel Hernandez for her loving, compassionate homecare of Mom the past five years.
