Anne Berger, beloved matriarch of the Berger family, passed late last year surrounded by love and family following a valiant battle with ovarian cancer. She was 77.
A Midwestern gal at heart, Anne was born in the small steel town of Monessen, Pennsylvania, raised with a concern for community and Christian values. Reared above her parents’ neighborhood grocery store, she nurtured an interest for small business and enjoyed a childhood in the hustle and bustle of a post-war immigrant town.
As a longtime resident of the South Bay, Anne developed strong ties to her community as a mom, grandmother, civic advocate and local businessperson. At 45, she took over ownership of Marty’s BMW, a local motorcycle dealership in Torrance; she grew the business from flop to flourish and within only a few years of her ownership, Marty's became BMW's top motorcycle dealership in the US for several years. Anne quickly developed a reputation in the industry and community as Marty’s’ caring yet no-nonsense owner. She ran Marty’s for nearly 20 years, tapping into her natural business acumen and creating a comfortable home-away-from-home environment for her loyal customers. Anne rose to the occasion as a born salesperson, recognizing her love of people and their stories, her true calling.
Anne is survived by her sons Mitchell Berger and David Berger, daughter-in-law Victoria Ochoa-Berger, stepdaughters Michelle Pascale and Wendy Woolley, granddaughter Sarah McLay-Berger, stepgrandchildren Divina Willingham, Charles Graham, Hannah Pascale, and Aubrey Iacona, brother Bernard Olsavick, sister Helen Ezerski, sister-in-law Lauree Berger, and her many adored friends throughout the community.
She is reunited in heaven with her true love, her beloved husband Addison Woolley. She leaves behind a legacy filled with love and kindness and will forever be felt on Hermosa’s greenbelt, at her favorite local boutiques, and amongst the beautiful gardens and flowers of the beach cities.
I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of Anne. She was the coolest neighbor.
