Angelina

May 2, 1927 ~ July 5, 2022

Born in: Los Angeles, California
Resided in: Gardena, California

Angelina Villescas Quiroz, age 95, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of July 5, 2022. Born on May 2, 1927 to Jose Angel Villescas and Soledad Campos Candelaria, Angelina lived her entire life in the great city of Los Angeles.

Aunt Angie, as she was know to most, grew up in Boyle Heights in the 30s and 40s.  She attended Roosevelt High School, and served as a care giver to her eleven brothers and sisters. From the moment she could clench a fist, Aunt Angie fought not only for herself, but for anyone who could not do so for themselves. A true guardian and protector, she cared deeply about her family and worked hard to provide for them.

Aunt Angie’s near century of life was not always easy; she lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the Civil Rights movement, and the Zoot Suit, Watts, and LA Riots of ‘92. Through it all, she lived each of her 95 years with dignity, self-respect and love in her heart. She valued hard work and loyalty above all and never took one day off from providing for her loved ones.

As a celebrated employee of the Hughes Aircraft Company for several decades, she worked her way up from an entry level position to the supervisory role of Quality Inspector.  She was revered for her attention to detail, her punctuality, her honesty, and her dedication to doing things the right way.

Married in the late 1940’s to Rudolfo “Rudy” Quiroz, Angie moved from East LA to her cherished home in the city of Gardena. Over the course of their 70 year marriage,  Angie and Rudy became Aunt and Uncle to a multitude of nieces and nephews and a cadre of pets, including Killer her dog, BB her bird, and a rotating group of neighborhood cats.  Together, she and Rudy opened up their home and their lives to generations of family members and demonstrated the lasting power of true love.  She cared for Rudy until his death in 2019.

Aunt Angie is survived by her younger brothers Raymond and Richard Villescas, her cat Baby and her beloved caregiver, and honorary daughter and friend, Rosaura Cano.

Her strength, humor, honesty, love and cleanliness will live on in our hearts forever.
